A 2013 road trip in Ghana was a turning point for Vanessa: the images she took there would go on to be shown at the Venice Biennale. Since, she’s become associate editor at Frieze – charged with curating more than capturing – but her interest in African photography has only grown. Tate’s epic survey goes some way to sating it, figuring, as Vanessa explains on page 274, a ‘future shared across borders’.
